Eligibility to Study in France

Studying in France offers a gateway to exceptional education and a culturally rich experience. To ensure eligibility for higher education programs in France, prospective students must meet specific criteria, which include:

  • Undergraduate Programs: Applicants should have completed their secondary education equivalent to the French baccalauréat. This usually means holding a high school diploma or its international equivalent.

  • Graduate Programs (Master’s and Ph.D.): A recognized bachelor's degree or its equivalent is mandatory for master’s programs, while a master's degree is generally required for doctoral studies.
  • French-Taught Programs: Proficiency in French is essential. Applicants may need to provide proof of language skills through certifications such as DELF or DALF.

  • English-Taught Programs: For courses conducted in English, non-native speakers must present an English language proficiency test score, such as IELTS or TOEFL.

International students from outside the European Union must apply for a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS). This process involves submitting documents including proof of admission, financial support, and medical insurance.

Prospective students must demonstrate financial stability to cover tuition fees and living expenses. This typically involves showing a bank statement or financial guarantee proving a minimum monthly amount required by French authorities.

  • Campus France Registration: Many applicants must register with Campus France, a French government agency that facilitates the application process.

  • Submission of Required Documents: Transcripts, a valid passport, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and a resume may be needed.

While there is generally no strict age limit for higher education in France, some scholarship programs or specific courses might have age-related conditions.
